A Welsh dragon has taken pride of place on the new International Convention Centre Wales (ICC Wales) in Newport, overlooking the M4. It was built within workshops in Pontypool and Caldicot by local company Pro Steel Engineering.
It has taken over eight months to create and approximately 22 tonnes of steel plate and section. The team had a range of employees working on the project, fabricators, welders, painters and erectors. Apprentices and trainees were involved during every step of the process including design , manufacturing and installation.
Richard Selby, Director, Pro Steel Engineering said:
“This is a unique project that gives a landmark definition to ICC Wales, Celtic Manor Resort. The project integrates the skills of those involved from inception through to completion. Pro Steel is pleased to have been awarded the design, fabrication, erection and commissioning elements of this fabulous addition to Welsh heritage.
“Pro Steel is a local company that prides itself on high-quality training and deep social values. By employing local labour, we are able to provide a reliable and robust service to a diverse client base. On this particular project, we will be ensuring that we give our apprentices, trainees and graduates as much experience as possible for them to feel part of its journey and success.
“We would like to thank Tata Steel for its original concept design and also the ICC Wales team for their faith in our ability to deliver this steel giant!”
