PRO STEEL DIRECTOR COMMENCES IOD WALES CHAIR ROLE

On November 1, 2020 our director and co-founder Richard Selby took on the role of National Chair, Institute of Directors in Wales.

He is very much looking forward to working with the fantastic IoD Wales team, but without question, it is a challenging time here in Wales and he has outlined his vision here.

Richard said of his new role: “There can be no denying that better directors build a better world. Before becoming a director eight years ago, I had no idea of how the decisions I make would impact the lives of so many people both directly as an employer and on an even wider basis from my role within the community. Having achieved success through my business, I have always considered it important to share this with those around me, and contribute to the wider communities, be they business, charity, or public sector.

“It’s crucial that we support sustainable economic activity that positively influences social well-being and generates long-term prosperity. Providing young people with the tools and skills to succeed in life is paramount to the success of its future, and will only help us further, to shape Wales into becoming the destination to do business.

“I am director and co-founder of Pro Steel Engineering Ltd, an award-winning, steel specialist company based in Wales and operating UK-wide and internationally. Work highlights to date have included the London Olympic Stadium transformation, the ICC Wales’ 22 tonne steel Welsh dragon overlooking the M4 and establishing international export contracts.

“I have actively participated in the business community in Wales and have been afforded the opportunities to participate in policymaking in both the Welsh and UK Governments.”

While fulfilling day to day requirements of the IoD Wales role, he will also be striving to promote three key areas:

Connecting leaders in order to foster local supply chains and stimulate economic growth.
Develop leaders through programmes of learning to ensure we have the best leaders.
Influence policy makers within all tiers of government by combining the expertise of our leaders.

The motto on the IoD’s Crest, ‘Integrity and Enterprise’, will have meant something different to founders in 1903, but as those responsible for their organisations, directors can be drivers of change and he will endeavour to make this a reality here in Wales.
